Llanpumsaint, Carmarthenshire

The witness, a lorry driver from Carmarthen, was driving alone in his lorry near Llanpumpsaint. It as dark but there were not many clouds around. He spotted a ball of light overhead which faded away, then came back again.

Then there was an orange ball on the right hand side of his vehicle which seemed stationary, visible for quite a while, then three red lights were seen afterwards, in the distance, moving very fast from left to right. There was erratic movement and they were then moving in a circular clockwise motion.

After the red lights, he couldn’t be sure, but there may have been a series of other lights in the distance, that were erratic too. (SUFON summary)

BBC News reported on sightings of lights that came in from the Llyn Peninsula to Swansea.

Morfudd Parry Roberts of Aberdaron, Gwynedd, said: "I was sitting having a cup of coffee by the window when I saw it move from the north towards the south. It was a long line, thicker at the front end. It was quite frightening because it was so big. It was a bluey-green and flashing. It was at least 50 times bigger than a shooting star and seemed to be gliding through the sky quite low down, not falling."

Jay Tate from Spaceguard UK said it was most likely to be a piece of space debris entering the earth's atmosphere.

BUFORA / MUFON
2nd February, 20:35
Pwllheli

Witness was driving when they saw an "exceptionally bright white light with green underbelly". It drifted down for c. 3 seconds then disappeared with a flash that lit up the road. They originally reported the sighting to BUFORA then, dissatisfied with their response (bolide space debris), to MUFON on July 29th 2018.

"I originally reported this incident to bufora with dogmatic response which i was never satisfied with. i felt that it lacked scrutiny. prognosis was a bolide space debris, however there was no explosion - the object simply disappeared, it was not a straight flight, it was utterly silent - the night was very still for a november, fireworks emit bangs, there were none. unusually it was very hard to range the object which i don’t normally find difficult being a professional engineer. i also gave another incident to report from the same location of an orange orb in 2009 also reported with a dismissive response again that i felt didn’t address the issue. photos attached carry the originally completed forms. please take seriously. many thanks."

"My wife saw it first from the kitchen window and after she had watched it for a little while called me to have a look, I think in all it was visible for 45/60 minutes approximately."

Geoff Richardson of The WHY? Files received the video footage taken, lasting some 25 minutes, towards the end of 2007. Explanations suggested on UFO forums included Venus.

Dr Nathanael Inkson was cycling home saw what appeared to be a bright star. He thought it might be a satellite but it was not travelling in a straight line. He ruled out a plane (no navigation lights, too fast) and a helicopter (no sound), and the object was in view for around a minute. He wrote into UFO Monthly magazine #36 to report the sighting.

Llandudno

Witness and his girlfriend saw a triangular or boomerang shaped UFO. It was a dull metallic colour, and about 3.5 metres across. It was extremely fast moving, flying left to right about two or three metres above the fairly clam surface of the sea. It made no noise. The sighting lasted around 45 seconds.

Frasier: 'My girlfriend and I were having a picnic on the Orme late afternoon in June 2007. We had been watching a jetski in the bay for several minutes. A minute or so after the jetski had disappeared round the headland towards the town, my girlfriend nudged me and pointed to something in the bay.

It was a triangular or boomerang shaped dull metallic object about three metres-five across moving right to left extremely fast about two or three metres above the sea which was pretty calm. It was completely silent and had a straight trajectory and did not alter height.

We only saw it for four-five seconds as it crossed our field of view between the two headlands but it was difficult to explain having just recently gauged the speed and sound of the jetski. It certainly wasn't a bird or anything else I could explain immediately.'

Llanelli

On a camping trip three friends saw they first thought to be a shooting star. However this object moved left slowly, sped up, then stopped. It moved up and down a few times, then sped up again. It slowly grew darker and smaller, as though moving further away.

Witness reported the sighting, which lasted around 20 seconds, to NUFORC on Saturday 16th June 2007:

"A white star-like object flew oddly over Llanelli, South Wales, UK before disappearing. 6 of us were camping on a field near mine and 2 other's houses. While 3 of us were asleep, me and my 2 other friends lay awake talking. The tent was a 6 man tent with two wings, both having a sloping roof with a window. I happened to glance out of the window at around 1:00 AM, that is not exact but it is between 1:00 and 2:00. I saw a star, a bright star. I brought myself closer to the window, and my two friends neared also. The star was moving. At first it looked like a meteorite or shooting star, but they are both short-lived in the atmosphere but this light stayed longer. It started to move left slowly, then it sped up, then it stopped. Then it moved up and down fast a few times, then sped up again. Then slowly it grew darker and smaller, as if it was moving away from us. Then it disappeared."

MUFON
Saturday June 16th, evening
Porthcawl

Witness and their friend were sitting on a stair railing at a Porthcawl beach, watching the sea. They looked up and saw an approaching light they initially took to be a helicopter. As it got closer it became big and bright, made no sound, and was leaving a trail. Suddenly 'it zoomed really high in a diagonal direction and just stayed in the sky like a star.'

Me and my friend were sitting on a stair railing at the beach in Porthcawl (South Wales), watching the waves out at sea while it started to get dark. I looked up and I could see a bright light coming over from the far distance, heading towards the sea remaining at similar height, (was flying about helicopter height).

At first I thought it was a helicopter but as it came nearer the light got really, really bright and the shape became bigger. My friend was seeing exactly the same as me, it was travelling really slow and something was like travelling just behind it then all of a sudden it zoomed really high in a diagonal direction and just stayed in the sky like a star.

We just couldn’t believe what we had seen, it made no noise and we tried taking pictures of it but it was so small in the sky it just looked like a star. We hung around a bit and we were both shaken up.

We rang family and friends etc, some made a joke about it and some believed us but you just had to be there to witness it. It just stayed there almost all night until we went home. It was too bright to see the shape of the object.

PRESS
Wednesday 25th July
Wrexham

Multiple witnesses saw strange lights in the sky over Wrexham.

Leigh and Lynn Williams, of Borras, caught sight of several strange orange orbs in the sky in July. The couple also managed to take a video of the strange sighting, which was posted on the Evening Leader website and was the subject of much public debate. Some posters, and UFO experts who spoke to the Leader, felt the incident merited further investigation, while others dismissed the sighting as being the result of Chinese lanterns.

Speaking at the time, Lynn said: "There were seven lights flying fast over the house. Two of them were flying round each other. They were flying very close together, closer than planes. They were going so fast we couldn't focus on them."

Leigh added: "There was no noise whatsoever. Surely if they were aircraft there would have been lots of noise. My wife was panicking. We just want to know what it was. When they went over it happened so quick. They moved very smoothly and were glowing."

Residents from Borras, Gwersyllt, Caergwrle and Acton said they also saw the lights and cannot explain them. Readers have posted comments suggesting the shape was a cigarette end or a street light. One person believes the video was staged with a lazer pen on a black carpet. Another Borras resident said they could remember a series of UFO sightings over Borras Airfield 20 years ago, mentioning they had seen green lights similar to the ones in the video over the bypass a year ago.

A worker from Acton, who posted a comment on our website, said: "I am a patrol and response officer for the wrexham area and saw these lights while I was attending an alarm call at Acton school. These, to my belief, are unexplained. There is no way this was a hoax, as I would not have seen them from Acton area if they were. In addition, they were very high up in the air and there's no way anyone can control anything from that distance. There were several 'floating' in the sky in a pack, at first I thought they were helicopters or similar, however there was no sound what so ever! Very strange and I would identify these as an unidentified flying objects. (Not saying they were aliens but definitely unexplainable).

Russell Callaghan, editor of UFO DATA Magazine, said:

"They are probably paper lanterns or homemade air balloons. There is no control over their flight and they are quite dangerous. The speed could be explained by them blowing on the wind. They are often tied together in groups, which explains them moving around each other and travelling at the same speed. The orange glow gives it away. There are reports week in week out somewhere in the country.

On the video we see one out of focus blob of light 'orange' and like the web comments suggest it could be street light orange or cigarette, personally I'll stand by my original suggestion this was a paper flying lantern. There are many strange events on record associated with the UFO subject and many that warrant serious research, unfortunately this is not one of those.

UFO DATA Magazine would never condone the use of these lanterns as they pose a serious fire threat to the general public and suggest they should not be on sale anywhere."

Sky lanterns have since been banned in Wales (at least on council owned land...) but as UFO explanations go they're basically the 2000s answer to the 90s disco laser lights! Undoubtedly ubiquitous, but also called on to explain away everything from low flying saucers to abduction experiences.

I lived on the top floor of Swansea road flats and me and a friend was sitting in the window looking down into the Cefn Valley when we spotted a odd red glowing ball of light just flying up and down the valley and it was moving in such a fast and sometimes erratic manner there is no way could it have been an helicopter or plane of any kind, it was a beautiful late evening were you couldn’t hear a sound and the thing we seen didn’t make any sound at all it past up and down the valley about 4 or 5 times then just vanished and it as puzzled us to this day."

"sphere flew overhead stopped manouvered at impossible speed changed shape and left at high speedi was sat in my garden when i looked up and saw a large white sphere that seemed to stop in mid air fly in a zig-zag in the same position rotate and change shape then leave at at least mach 4 there was no sound and it appeared to be at aircraft cruising height,i lost sight of the craft as it flew towards the sun.this was not a bird or a plane it seemed to stop as i looked at it,wierd.i would say it was very large ,after spotting aircraft in the same area it appeared to be twice the size of a airbus 747 in diameter and the sight of a metallic flash was also apparent as it changed shape (it kinda had a silver ring appear around the centre of it that gave it a saucer like appearence with a upper and lower white dome).i was a seargent in air cadets and know how to identify known aircraft, and having flown myself so i know this wasn`t manually controlled by a human being radio controlled maybe but it was huge!high! and fast!"

Witness and two friends were walking up the dunes on the beach when one spotted what they thought was a satellite. The object then descended to around 30 - 50 feet above them and 'flashed a huge white light' before flying off again. Five more crafts and a large orange orb could be seen in the sky for about 15 minutes. Witness reported the sighting to MUFON on Monday 6th February 2012:

"Me and two friends were walking up the dunes on the beach. Shortly after one friend spotted the first craft and said "is that a satellite?" The craft then proceeded to descend from space to around 30-50 feet above us, flashed a huge white light on us and then flew off into space again. Another 5 crafts could be seen in space with the original craft appearing in random locations then following each other on the same flight course. A large Orange orb appeared on the horizon about the same size as a full moon and hung there for about 15 min. Another star on the horizon started to pulsate growing in size as large as a full moon and contracting into near invisibility. The crafts were all headed on a tangent towards the pulsating craft on the horizon and as we were watching that the other orange orb had vanished."

They were first observed to the south at a 2 o'clock position in the clear sky, and travelled northwards, remaining at an elevation of 45 degrees. They then faded out at 11 o'clock position.

Pete explained that, at arm's length, two of the lights were one finger's width apart and the trailing light was at two fingers' width from them.

Autumn 2007
Caerau, Llynfi Valley

One day in the early autumn of 2007, brothers, David and Andrew were walking around the hills to the east of Caerau and Croeserw in the Llynfi Valley, taking random photographs. One photo showed a large, dark disc over the Afan Valley in the north west, in the same area as the sighting that David had witnessed with around 20 of his school friends in 1983. David and Andrew did not notice anything when taking the photo, but there it was on the image. They sent the image to Alien Disclosure Group UK who analysed and enhanced it, to reveal the dark disc in greater clarity.

Margaret Fry saw a UFO which appeared 5 to 6 times longer than a jet. She reported it to SUFOG magazine, December 2007:

I saw a UFO on the 6th October 2007, at 4.20 p.m. Ron (Her Husband) and I went to Slaters Maintenance Shop opposite our house to get a battery for his Rover car key. The mechanic went into the office to get it.

It was a clear blue sky - no clouds at all - warm - I looked up and thought "just the day to see a UFO" and there it was, in a mist, shape difficult to define, about 5 - 6 times longer than a jet (about 25,000 feet may be?) anyway it was high up and I was looking up as the mechanic came with the key and change.

I paid no attention, so he looked up, said "Space Ship" and walked off into the maintenance shop. (Was he being facetious?) Anyway, I thought it will disappear - then I'm certain, & it did in a clear blue sky they fly quite differently to our aeroplanes which cut through air, these glide like fish in water, like it's their natural environment.

This happened above Abergele Market Street the Main Road, I was standing in the court yard.

Two clusters of amber/orange and white lights in triangular formations. They travelled horizontally in a North Westerly direction. They moved like a cork that was bobbing on water. SUFON's Emlyn Williams interviewed the witness on October 24th 2015:

9.30 / 10 PM. David was with his wife and were driving from Maesteg with their 4 year-old daughter after having picked up David’s mother, brother Andrew and sister to stay with them in Pontarddulais. They had just passed the village of Bryn on the B4282, heading west and his passengers in the car suddenly said, “Look at the lights!”

David couldn’t see anything at first, so pulled the car in near a side farm track. All got out of the car and looked up. They saw two very large, low-flying, triangular formations of lights. Each triangle was formed of three amber lights, one at each corner, with a cluster of red and white lights in the centre of each triangle. There was one flashing light in each of the two triangles, but more noticeable in the front one, which was ahead of the other, and staggered in formation. The amber lights weren’t bright and there were no beams coming out, more like a glow.

As they flew over, the front one ‘dipped its wings’ like a plane would, and as it did so, one light went out view. The two objects had come over the mountain from the south on their left, moving slowly in a straight, level profile. They headed north over the Afan Valley towards Neath, taking about five minutes to go out of sight. There was no sound at all coming from the objects. A car went past them while they were viewing the objects. Everyone was staggered and talked about it for the rest of the evening.

Just three weeks ago, Martin Dupres and two friends had a close encounter when they saw a strange light. Martin, 43, of Riverside, Cardiff, said: "I saw an extremely bright light come straight across the sky. Then it faded out but it might have sped up. It wasn't a satellite or an aeroplane. This thing was not like that. The light shone towards my eyes then carried on. I'm curious, I've never seen anything like it before."

Mr Harry Hughes of Grays Road, Mynydd Isa, was returning extra chairs to the shed when he looked up and 'saw what looked like five bright orangey-red fireballs flying through the sky, coming from the Bodfari direction. They were travelling quite fast, about 10 - 12 seconds apart and were revolving. They were travelling too fast to be aircraft and were completely silent.'

Harry called to his wife, Pam, to come look. As she stepped into the garden the objects changed direction, from west to north. Pam observed them through binoculars, watching the last object stop momentarily before moving off in a northerly direction.

Harry said: "They moved very smoothly and were glowing. I have no idea what these lights were, but I really glad that I have seen something like this and I am glad my wife is able to verify that they were totally unexplained. I'll be looking out for more over the next few days. I'm just sorry we weren't able to get a picture or a video of them, but there wasn't enough time."

When the story was published in the local papers (Flintshire Standard and Wrexham Evening Leader), more witnesses came forward -

Marie Davies, of Chester Road in Mold, was driving from Holywell to Hakyn when she saw a red light low in the sky at about 19:00. "At first I thought it was the moon but it was too low in the sky. It was flame red and it was standing still over the Dee Estuary way. I couldn't believe my eyes. I would like to see it again. I don't drink so it wasn't that. There was no way it was an aeroplane. It was very weird."

Mrs Coulton, of Mold, said her family were left perplexed after seeing orange coloured lights in the sky. "The light was a fair way off, it was coming towards us then stopped, went backwards, stayed still for about four or five minutes, then faded away. It was really strange. It was definitely there, was not a firework, star, helicopter, or plane. We really don't know what it was."

David Clark of Elwy Close, Bryn y Baal, said Harry Hughes' report was correct. "It is absolutely true what he says. There were three very bright lights which suddenly separated and one looked like it shot straight up at high speed. At first we thought they were balloons or planes but they were going too fast and didn't look like planes. There was no noise whatsoever and they were going so fast. I have never seen anything like it before."

December ('after Christmas')
Llanishen, Cardiff

Early one evening after Christmas, low - broken cloud. The witness, living in Llanishen, Cardiff, went for a smoke out the back garden. Looking up in a northerly direction, the witness saw what was at first thought, a meteor, but was flying low and of an odd shape - which the witness compared to two boater hats glued together, but the rim was not as large.

It was an opaque white but the contours were a very bright white. It was heading 'hell for leather' in an east-west direction, and due to the low clouds that evening must have been low to have been seen. The witness said it was huge, and left some sort of vapour trail behind it (short and white) which disappeared as soon as the object went into cloud. (SUFON summary)
