F BAGILLT CINEMA - Weird Wales

BAGILLT CINEMA

Not quite a pub but... I was already planning to include this story in the pub series, just for want of somewhere to put it, but I didn't put two and two together in my head until I googled 'bagillt + cinema' to search for its name. Peter Moore was one of Wales' worst serial killers, murdering at least four men and committing 39 sex attacks over a 20 year period. He's currently serving a whole life tariff.

All the same, according to the Abergele and Pensarn Visitor of July 6th 1995, Moore didn't like to be in the cinema after closing thanks to a ghost dubbed Susie...

One not so happy part of the atmosphere, though, is a non-paying guest - or rather ghost - which haunts the cinema at Bagillt, which has had a varied life as cinema, bingo hall and originally, chapel. Peter believes there is some connection. The ghost, named Susie, is a lady with a shock of white hair dressed in the black robes of a lay preacher. Ironically, she last appeared in the middle of the film Hocus Pocus.

"It was in the intermission. I won't stay in the building once we've closed up at night now. We did actually think at first that she was one of the bingo players who died just after getting a full house."
