Early August, evening
Cardiff
Two witnesses saw multiple saucers in the sky one evening in early August. They came forward some months later, with a short account published in the South Wales Echo of April 15th 1950:
We both saw about six "saucers" one evening about the beginning of last August. They were moving in all directions, so could not have been balloons. At times the objects appeared to be hovering; at others travelling at terrific speed. A flame came from them in the manner of a jet. For some 10 minutes they manoeuvered in the sky - they had a wobbly, spinning motion - then all disappeared, getting smaller and smaller until out of sight. - T.C. and S.W.
The Cardiff observers explain: "As we were ridiculed we did not report the matter to the authorities, presuming they would be sceptical, but now that reports have become so numerous and widespread as to invade the very respectable, sober and conservative Echo we decided to disclose our information in the hope that people in Britain will watch the skies for these flying machines." But after this local eye-witness account what need have we of further witnesses? Well, there are people who still believe in the Angles of Mons, despite the denial of the late Arthur Machen, the Gwent story-writer, that they ever existed. He knew; he invented them.

Witness: Haydn
"In 1949 I was a pupil of Fron Goch Infants School and whilst I was going back to school after playtime I looked back and saw a flying saucer fly down the length of the brook that runs behind the school near where the new police station is now. In those days helicopters were virtually unknown and it was too small (about 6 ft diameter) to be an aircraft and too big to be a bird. The teachers also saw it and stood there for quite some time."
[In 1949 Fron Goch school was Grove Road, now housing Denbigh Museum. There is indeed a stream behind the buildings - SUFON note.]

'Jayne' - who had other experiences in 1934, 1943 and 1954 - and her five year old brother encountered an alien device disguised as an insect that spoke to her and saw a dull silver bell-shaped UFO. Margaret Fry recorded the details in Who Are They?:
"So now, she said, comes the most difficult experience for you to swallow or understand. David was about 5 and she was playing with him on this rough ground at the back. They were not allowed to go round the curve of the bay near the cliffs, but he had wandered off, as she sat down. She then noticed a strange, large insect in the grass.
Here I managed to ask it she had not thought it a mechanical device, for she said it started talking to her in a fairly loud clear voice. It said to go and look over the cliffs, at this she noticed David had wandered and yelled to him to return. He came over and she said, “Would you listen to this insect, it is talking to me.” When he came the insect continued to talk and told them both to go to the cliffs. (The cliffs I had to look at through binoculars, so they were some distance away).
At this her brother ran ahead to the central bowl of the top cliffs, the area drops away several hundred hundred feet to the sea below. He went near the edge to peer at something. She was running towards him, to grab him. When she reached him, she had to forcefully hold him back, it was as though he was compelled to go forward. At this point she saw a dull silver bell-shaped craft about 10/15ft in diameter hovering up and down the cliff face, it would come up to the level of the cliff edge, then go down again. Clutching David’s hand, she dragged him home to her grandmother’s house. This was the last occasion in her childhood/girlhood that she saw a UFO. I asked if David remembered this. She said yes, she certainly knew he did, but he would not talk about it.
boyfriend. I interrupted again and asked what she now thought of the talking insect. “Oh, I know now, it could not have been a insect, it must have been something mechanical, a device which could relay voice messages from the craft. That was the first time I thought it was a craft and not a strange sort of caravan, like the ones I saw in the fields.”"
