The Pembrokeshire Herald and General Advertiser of 28th April 1869 reported that a local young man had been taken in by a youth wearing a white sheet pretending to be a ghost. Another local man claimed to have seen the devil.

A ghost was heard speaking Welsh and English in the chimney and letterbox of a house. It turned out to be a servant girl 'gifted with ventriloquial powers'. (Reports from Cambrian News 22/05/1869 and Western Mail 19/05/1869.)

Sarah Jacobs, the so called Welsh fasting girl, died at the age of 12. To her supporters she was a miracle child who had eaten nothing for over two years, sustained on religious faith alone. But, when put under 24 hour watch, she was dead within a few weeks. Her parents later served time in Swansea prison for her manslaughter.
