I did the basic research for this blog series a couple of years ago. Then, as usual, flitted along to the next thing that caught my interest. Now I'm trying to flesh the cases out and present to you my justification for not being a fan of walking along the canal on dark and lonely nights... For more canal deaths, check out the master post.

The Weekly Mail of Saturday 13th January 1883 reported that a man named William Beeches had been found dead in the canal on the morning of Monday January 8th, presumably the result of falling in while walking from Cwmbran in the dark.

The same brief report appeared in almost identical form in the Western Mail (09/01/83), Abergavenny Chronicle (12/01/83), Cardiff Times (13/01/83), and the South Wales Daily News of January 10th.

So far I have been unable to find out anything more about him.
