Death on the Canal - 1873, Charles Donford

Death on the (Mon & Brec) Canal

I did the basic research for this blog series a couple of years ago. Then, as usual, flitted along to the next thing that caught my interest. Now I'm trying to flesh the cases out and present to you my justification for not being a fan of walking along the canal on dark and lonely nights...

The South Wales Daily News of August 4th 1873 reported:

CARDIFF. A LITTLE BOY DROWNED. A little boy named Charles Donford, aged four years, who had been missing from his home, 66, Millicent-street, since Friday last, was discovered yesterday in the east side of the Old Canal, drowned. An inquest will be held.

The story was also covered in the August 9th 1873 edition of Baner ac Amserau Cymru:

I couldn't find a birth record, but the death register listed a Charles Frederick Donford dying in Cardiff in 1873. He was born in 1869.
